What Is Paint Correction, and Is It Just Polishing?

What is paint correction, and is it just polishing?

Paint correction is the process of buffing the vehicle to make it look better. A stage 1 paint correction is when the vehicle gets a one step polish to bring back gloss. What is a 2-step or 3-stage paint correction? That is where we do heavy compounding followed by polishing to remove deep swirls and scratches.

A lot of people think their car needs a new paint job when it is looking dull or hazy, but usually, what it actually needs is a professional paint correction.

How Much Paint Does a Correction Remove?

Paint corrections remove only microns of paint. When performed professionally, such as at Ray’s Luxury Detailing, the process does not visibly remove or burn through paint. The amount removed is extremely small and limited to the clear coat; the underlying paint is not affected.

Is Getting Paint Correction Worth It?

Getting a paint correction is one of the smartest things you can do to make your new car really look new or restore an older vehicle. It is often the cheapest alternative to painting a car. If your vehicle has clear coat left on it, a paint correction can make it look brand new again for a fraction of the cost of a body shop.

Why is Paint Correction So Expensive?

Professional paint correction takes a very long time. Depending on the steps, it can take anywhere from 4 hours to 12 plus hours of actual work. A 3-stage paint correction cost can range from $2,000 to $4,000 because it is a very deep and thorough process to ensure everything is done correctly.

How Deep of a Scratch Can Paint Correction Fix?

As long as the scratch is not through to the metal or deep in the clear coat, it can be removed. Paint correction does not get rid of rock chips, as those are actual chips out of the paint, but paint transfer is very easy to get off. If you hit a pole, it is very easy to remove that transferred paint with a correction rather than getting a crazy body shop quote.

Is Ceramic Coating Better Than Paint Correction?

They are two different things. Ceramic coating is the protection for your vehicle, and paint correction is what you do before you apply your ceramic coating. Pair them together, and your paint can stay perfect forever.
